Description

Shadowball is a story about Negro Leagues Baseball told through the voice of James Thomas “Cool Papa” Bell, considered by many to be the fastest man to ever play the game. Dressed in a period uniform, Rochel recreates the life and times of “Cool Papa” and his fellow Negro Leaguers who strived to overcome perception and economics in the pursuit of freedom. Rochel, a magnetic presence, uses baseball as a way to explore the historical context of the first half of the twentieth century, when America underwent many changes.

Students Will

  • learn about the latin-american countries where baseball was and is played.
  • listen and participate in aciton-packed storytelling performance.
  • learn about the life and times of members of the Negro League.

Duration: 45 minutes per performance
School Fee: $800 per performance; $1000 for Back to back performances.

Technical Needs: Please designate a person in your school as the primary contact on the day of the program to facilitate artist needs Stage area to be swept and cleared of all risers, desks, tables, etc. before artists arrival. Off stage areas must be clear.

Cancellation Policy: A program is confirmed when you receive your contract by mail, fax, or email. Should illness, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances prevent the program taking place as scheduled, Young Audiences will offer the option of rescheduling or using a substitute artist. Programs canceled by a school or community presenter after confirmation are subject to full payment. A $25 rescheduling fee will be charged if a schedule change is requested after a program has been confirmed.
After School Policy: A teacher or afterschool employee must remain with class at all times.
