During School Day, After School, Summer, Weekend
Residency, On Campus Program
Pre K, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, Community/Fam., Talented/Gifted
Students take a "virtual" vacation around the world, stopping in South America, Europe, Africa, and elsewhere, learning about exotic places through the Internet, magazines, pictures, shared stories, visitors, and more. Students will keep a travel journal, drawing and writing about what they see, ending in a "What I Did for My Vacation" essay unlike any they've ever written before!
Use their imaginations to transport themselves to exotic places they may never get to visit in "real" life.
Learn about other cultures and lifestyles.
Experience the value of imaginative play and dramatization.
Have the opportunity to share stories of their own "real-life" travel experiences.
Learn to be an attentive audience as they listen to others' stories.
Write about their virtual experiences in travel journals and postcards home.
Participate in physical movement activities that enable them to "travel" from place to place; also may engage in activities that represent aspects of different cultures such as specific types of dance or games.
Two hour minimum per site, up to as many visits as desired and feasible, though this program functions best with multiple visits.
Price Per Hour: $100.00
Paper and writing utensils are always needed. Art supplies such as construction paper, posterboard, markers, and glue for the creation of scenery may be necessary. We may also require access to a globe or large world map, overhead projector, T.V. with a VCR or DVD player, a CD player, and/or a computer with Internet access. A $20 - $30 supply fee may be assessed.
While this program works best in 10 hours or more residencies, we are able to tailor it to fit smaller amounts of time.
Scheduling / Booking
To schedule this program, or for more information, call The Writer's Garret at (214) 828-1715 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Residencies of 10 sessions or more result in a printed anthology of students' work and the opportunity for students to show off newly developed skills in a public reading to friends and family.
Prefer no later than two weeks prior to start date.
A minimum of 48 hours notice is required to cancel a scheduled date. If 48-hour notice is given, we will reschedule the date, based upon the availability of the Instructor. If 48-hour notice is not given, we will bill for the date scheduled and not reschedule the date.
After School Policy:
At least one school representative/teacher must be present in the classroom at all times. 25 students maximum per class; the preferred student teacher ration is 25:2. Minor adjustments can be negotiated.
