Description

Students take a "virtual" vacation around the world, stopping in South America, Europe, Africa, and elsewhere, learning about exotic places through the Internet, magazines, pictures, shared stories, visitors, and more. Students will keep a travel journal, drawing and writing about what they see, ending in a "What I Did for My Vacation" essay unlike any they've ever written before!

Students Will

  • Use their imaginations to transport themselves to exotic places they may never get to visit in "real" life.
  • Learn about other cultures and lifestyles.
  • Experience the value of imaginative play and dramatization.
  • Have the opportunity to share stories of their own "real-life" travel experiences.
  • Learn to be an attentive audience as they listen to others' stories.
  • Write about their virtual experiences in travel journals and postcards home.
  • Participate in physical movement activities that enable them to "travel" from place to place; also may engage in activities that represent aspects of different cultures such as specific types of dance or games.

Scheduling / Booking

Instructions: To schedule this program, or for more information, call The Writer's Garret at (214) 828-1715 or email program@writersgarret.org.
