Description

Kent offers a very exciting way to bring a traditional and popular Japanese theater art form to your classroom. Students explore the history of "kabuki" theatre, learn basic movement techniques for men ("samurai") and women ("onnagata"). Wearing kimono costumes, students stage a traditional Japanese folktale, such as" Momotaro" ("The Peach Boy") or "Issun Boshi" ("The One Inch Boy") using hand fans and wearing washable "kabuki" face paint.

Students Will

  • study the history of Japanese Kabuki dance theater.
  • wear kimono costumes.
  • learn basic Japanese kabuki movement techniques.
  • portray traditional Japanese Kabuki characters in their own kabuki production.
  • wear kumadori, traditional kabuki makeup.
